No one seems to really want a relationship or is already in a relationship. No one seems to really want kids. I’m from the area and don’t plan on leaving, but I’m not sure how many other people want to settle down here. It seems popular to say you aren’t really looking for a relationship or you’re just seeing what’s out there. Maybe it’s just a millennial thing but it can get really annoying at times.
Everyone is always coming or going at some point, and I feel like everyone I connect with eventually ends up moving, or they’ve been here too short of a time to get serious with someone. There is a real elitist attitude here now, one that wasn’t as prevalent when I was growing up in the city. If I wasn’t over six feet and in great shape, I think I would be totally f—ed as far as dating here. I don’t like having the guy pay for everything I think it’s because of the dense nature of this city and the technological rise that people feel they’re not accountable or held to their actions in any way.
Online dating makes this worse because now your dates are treated in some ways more like a commodity then an emotional connection.

San Francisco is a city full of young, ambitious people with great food, hundreds of bars and even more activities. What could go wrong when you’re looking for love? There are many, many examples in the slideshow above. I spent about six years actively dating around the Bay Area. In that time I dated, for varying amounts of time, three self-described indie rockers, an amateur hockey player, an elementary school teacher with a drinking problem, a yoga teacher who didn’t drink alcohol or consume processed sugars and carbohydrates of any kind , an English teacher living in his mom’s in-home daycare, and a skateboarding enthusiast who worked as a manager at a tech company.

The “Quarantined Bachelor,” a new Instagram dating show started by two sheltering-in-place San Franciscans, has quickly gained traction over the past two weeks. What would happen if a season of “The Bachelor” had to happen under shelter in place? Would contestants go on Zoom dates in their pajamas instead of going skydiving and flirting in hot tubs? Would the bachelor present his chosen bachelorettes with a roll of toilet paper instead of a rose?
Cohen, a stand-up comic who had been on a dating show in New York City, already had something in the works with Parenteau, a self-professed connoisseur of dating shows, before coronavirus hit. Join a quarantine book club. While Parenteau and Cohen had already started accepting contestant applications via Google form, once they announced that Shall was their bachelor, more applications began pouring in.
With a whole season of the “Quarantined Bachelor” unfolding over just a few weeks, the process goes pretty quickly. Then, the five contestants are introduced in the same way. Next is a meet and greet: a Zoom group video chat with all of the contestants. After that, the contestants all do minute virtual speed dates with the QBachelor. And then, arguably the most entertaining part of the series: the Toilet Paper Ceremony.
Instead of a rose, the QBachelor presents three of the five contestants a ceremonial toilet paper roll before moving to the next round. If this seems like an incredibly strange way to date, Shall says it is — but less so because of the virtual aspect, and more so due to the reality TV show environment.

Starting a dating app during a time period in which human touch between strangers is temporarily verboten may sound like a terrible idea, but a new SF-created app could be positioning itself as a post-pandemic savior for the love lives of people looking to settle down with a family. Although some initially projected a baby boom due to couples sheltered with partners and the confrontation with their own mortality , recent studies say that we should actually expect a bust, to the tune of potentially half-a-million fewer bundles of joy.
Claudette Arguello, a single mother who works as a nurse in San Francisco, can attest to the difficulty of using apps like Tinder.

It’s always fun to have a “night out,” and most of us have our favorite spots to take a significant other or special someone. But what if you want an outing that’s a little outside the box? There are so many options in the Bay Area it can be a bit overwhelming, so the SFGATE staff has compiled an insider slideshow of our favorite date places. Whether you’re looking for a spot for a first date, a place to take your longtime partner or an outing for friends, we have a variety of “date” ideas, ranging from a simple spot for a really great cocktail to a more elaborately-planned afternoon with a series of stops.
Some dates are casual and fun, like playing board games at a bar in hippie-town Fairfax or at a beloved East Bay bar that looks like someone’s living room, and others involve a not-so-subtle romantic spot to cozy up with a drink. There’s also the special bar one of our colleagues uses as “the closer,”as well as a few ideas for a new way to get out of your comfort zone and explore a part of the Bay Area that’s foreign to you.

Millennials and modern dating
The popular plan to take cars off Market Street — home to some of the most dangerous intersections for pedestrians and cyclists in San Francisco — is about to be put into action. While some have expressed concern over the extra traffic on parallel streets it could cause, it’s been lauded as a solution to eliminating traffic fatalities as part of the city’s Vision Zero project. This means private vehicles will be restricted including ride-hail companies like Uber and Lyft , although vehicles with commercial plates, taxis, emergency vehicles and paratransit will still be able to use Market Street.
All traffic may still cross Market Street at intersections. In addition, Muni-only lanes will be extended, and new loading zones as well as intersection safety improvements including new painted safety zones at eight intersections will be added in the next few weeks.
The filming gives the illusion they all take place during one night as the dates cut back and forth through sleek editing. Samuel: All my life, I would allow my own perception of my self-worth to be dictated by people that I had feelings for.

For more coverage, visit our complete coronavirus section here. As the rest of the state of California entered Stage 2 of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s reopening plan Friday, six Bay Area counties continued enforcing a stricter shelter-in-place order. The order, in effect in most of the Bay Area, does not allow for the return of retail and manufacturing — even with strict physical-distancing requirements — but some local officials have indicated in recent days that could change soon.
Here’s where every county stands on joining the rest of the state in the early phases of Stage 2. Mayor London Breed tweeted last week her city is eyeing May 18 as a date to reopen retail businesses. County health officer Dr. Sara Cody was the driving force behind the region’s original shelter-in-place order, and has indicated in recent days her county — and the rest of the region — is not close to hitting metrics for reopening anytime soon. And in our county, that translates to 4, a day.
She told the Santa Clara Board of Supervisors on Tuesday her county was “weeks” away from hiring and training the 1, contact tracers required for reopening, and declined to give a timeline for when she may be comfortable writing an order that allows for the return of retail and manufacturing. In a letter to the community last week , county health officer Dr. Scott Morrow indicated he may be willing to loosen the shelter-in-place order in his county even further beyond the state’s Stage 2 reopening prior to May 31 — given the state order changes as well.
While the Governor has indicated that the State will do so in weeks, not months, the actual date is uncertain.
